Total Chlorine Checker 0.00 to 3.50 ppm
Hanna Instruments HI-711 Total Chlorine Checker®HC Handheld Colorimeter (0.00 to 3.50 ppm)
The Hanna Instruments HI-711 Total Chlorine Checker®HC is a fully featured handheld photometer at a pocket-sized price, delivering instant, accurate total chlorine readings at the touch of a button. Chlorine in water presents as both free chlorine — the active chlorine available to tackle bacteria — and total chlorine, which is the combined measurement of free and used chlorine. If total chlorine is high but free chlorine is low, there is insufficient active chlorine to deal with the level of contamination present. Measuring both as part of a rigorous testing procedure allows chlorine levels to be adjusted quickly and a high level of disinfection to be maintained.
The HI-711 uses an EPA approved DPD method (Standard Method 4500-Cl G) and delivers high precision results that are more accurate than chemical test kits, with no colour-matching guesswork. The contoured palm-sized casing houses a large, easy to read LCD, and the auto shut-off feature ensures the battery cannot be drained if the unit is left on. The HI-711 is supplied with two sample cuvettes, a cuvette cap, a starter pack of 6 reagent tests, a battery and instructions. Replacement reagents are available as HI-711-25 (25 tests). It can also be used to check chlorine levels in fish tanks — use alongside recommended dechlorinators.

Please note: Interference may be caused by bromine, iodine, ozone and oxidised forms of chromium and manganese. For water with hardness greater than 500 mg/L CaCO₃, shake the sample for approximately 2 minutes after adding the powder reagent. If alkalinity exceeds 250 mg/L CaCO₃ or acidity exceeds 150 mg/L CaCO₃, the colour may develop only partially or fade rapidly — neutralise the sample with diluted HCl or NaOH.
