The Rosemount Liquid Level Switch (previously Mini-SQUING) operates based on the tuning fork principle. A piezoelectric crystal vibrates the forks at their natural frequency. This frequency shifts depending on the density of the medium surrounding the fork—the denser the liquid, the lower the frequency. As a low-level alarm, the fork detects a frequency change when the liquid level drops below it, prompting the electronics to switch the output state. As a high-level alarm, the fork detects a frequency change when rising liquid makes contact, causing the output state to switch accordingly.
